Former Director-General of the World Trade Organisation and former EU Commissioner, Peter Sutherland told the National Forum On Europe that opposition to the Treaty of Lisbon, on specifically economic arguments, was hard to understand. However, the other keynote speaker, Mary Lou McDonald MEP and National Chairperson of Sinn Féin,said that, under the Treaty, a government would find it much harder to protect national health and education services against privatisation.
The National Forum On Europe has launched a Channel on YouTube. The new Channel www.youtube.com/forumoneurope will provide a window into the public meetings which the Forum is currently holding around the country on the Treaty of Lisbon (the EU Reform Treaty).
