Election Special
The 2nd of NEAR90’s live election specials covered the Dublin North Central constituency and was held in Le Chéile Centre on 23rd April 2003.
The panel was chaired by Ger Dorgan and included all the designated candidates, as follows:
Séan Haughey (FF)
Ivor Callely (FF)
Richard Bruton (FG)
Finian McGrath (Ind)
Browen Maher (Greens)
Peter Lawlor (SF)
Antoinette Keegan (Ind)
Derek McDowell (Lab)
The venue was filled to capacity, befitting the occassion, and the format involved the candidates fielding questions from the participants at the venue, the live radio audience and listeners who texted comments and questions.
All who participated agreed the event was an innovative and creative exercise in Active Citizenship, which highlighted the very positive contribution of community radio to participative democracy!
