SESSION D.3: EXERCISE
EFFECTIVE COMMITTEES OF MANAGEMENT
Each person examines the slips of paper with an aspect of management
in a voluntary organisation displayed on them.
Each person selects a topic they believe is the most important.
Break into groups of two and work for ten minutes on the two
selected topics. Discuss each in turn and attempt to agree on
the importance or otherwise of each topic.
Remember, the point of this exercise is to evaluate the relative
merits of different aspects of running a community radio station,
not to form a pact between the two of you to support each other's
'topic' at all costs.
Part of the positive dynamic of 'community' is for people to
be themselves and to listen to other points of view and them to
support those proposed actions that they feel will most benefit
the project.
At the facilitators call, join a larger group discussing the
topics, or categories, you chose for further elaboration.
After a further twenty minutes reconvene for reports from the
various groups and general discussion.
Agree on priorities and write up.
It may also be useful to review those topics left out of the
selection process to see if some of those should be added to the
priority list.
