A useful tool to do this is to devise a power matrix, a diagram
of the various institutions and groups operating within your community.
To get you started, some groups common to almost all communities
are presented on the supplied sample. You can delete some of these
and add others as best suit your needs.
Through dialogue, decide on the relative 'power' merits of each
group. Agree to allocate a 'power value' to each one. For instance,
allocate
a minus value 0 to 50 to all those entities, which your group
agrees
dis-empowers your community or groups or individuals within your
community, and allocate a positive value 0 to 50 to those that
in some way empower your community, or groups or individuals within
your community.
Use the supplied diagram to do your first draft, but then, write
the diagram up on a flip chart for easier presentation to the
group.
