SESSION D.8: EXERCISES
FOCUS GROUP WORK
It has been suggested that you could use certain innate human
behaviours to coordinate a more effective 'focus group' session.
To test these behavioural ideas, take the list supplied below
and
ask each member of the group to recall an incidence of their
behaving in the manner described.
Tick off beside each category how many of your group have
behaved in this way.
Can each member of the group deal with these questions?
Have you ever:
Found yourself disliking a person or situation and ever after
finding fault with most things associated with that person or
situation?
Felt obliged to give a favour or gift in return for one?
Felt obliged to follow through on a public promise?
Felt inclined to do what someone who made you feel special had
asked of you?
Looked where a crowd were looking?
Did what someone you liked had asked?
Followed the lead of someone who looked authoritative?
Bought something because it was scarce?
------------------------------------------------------------------
Methods of organising a 'Focus Group'. Consider the following;
Who will we contact?
How will we make initial contact?
What in general will we say to encourage participation?
Where will we meet?
What will we ask of those present to ensure a positive response?
Have one person write up your thoughts on flip chart paper
supplied and report back to the larger group.
You have about a half an hour for this.
